The Discover Channel will be airing a series where you can vote on who you think was the “Greatest American in history.”
Among some of the obvious choices, Oprah Winfrey is in the top 25, just one spot ahead of the Wright Brothers. It only makes sense. The Wright Brothers only flew for 12 seconds. Oprah flies in a private jet for hours. That’s no contest! Oprah’s closing in on George Washington though, and if she overtakes him, I think I’ll join some of those Hollywood dopes who say they’ll leave the country.
Oprah guru Maya Angelou also made the list. After all, who’s the greatest American… one who makes history, or one who can write poems about it?
A look at the top 100 and we see such possibilities for “Greatest American” like Michael Moore, Tom Cruise, Michael Jordan, Brett Favre (who has finally corrected the spelling of his last name), Richard Nixon, and many others. What, no “Deep Throat”?
Jimmy Carter also made the list. Some of the people, like Jimmah, remind me that a few of the choices may have made the “Greatest American” nominee list because they show the resiliency of the United States despite their best efforts, intentionally or unintentionally, to completely screw things up.
