Here’s a PDF of a 1975 Newsweek article on global cooling. Some highlights:

The evidence in support of these predictions has now begun to accumulate so massively that meteorologists are hard pressed to keep up with it.

They [scientists] are almost unanimous in the view that the [cooling] trend will reduce agricultural productivity for the rest of the century.

Scientists are almost unanimous? Overwhelming numbers of them agree? Wow, that kind of language sure does sound familiar. Where have we heard that before?

Of course, at the time of this 1975 panic attack over “global cooling,” we must remember that this was before people drove big cars, flew in airplanes, ran factories, cows broke wind, and all that other stuff that is now causing the global warming. What? Oh.

They were almost unanimous about the world being flat, and the universe circling the earth, too.
