As Bush continues to be accused of playing politics with the lives of others, a large group of House of Reps. members have been busy trying to stop Bush — by playing politics with the lives of others.
Seventy House members, nearly all liberal Democrats, vowed today that they would not support any more funding for Iraq military operations unless tied to a complete withdrawal of combat troops.
This is a big development. Earlier this year, liberals grudgingly voted for Iraq funding bills because they didn’t want to give Nancy Pelosi a defeat. Now it seems that their patience has run out.
They voted to fund the troops because they didn’t want to give Nancy Pelosi a defeat? If you’re in uniform, it should make you sleep better at night knowing that your missions are on the verge of being decided by what’s best politically for California’s Queen of the Facelift.
You have to wonder how this makes those who are truly against the war feel — hostilities continue so Democrats could help Nancy Pelosi avoid looking like an instant loser while still wearing the paper trainee hat for the Speaker of the House gig.
This newest call for retreat comes just a few months after Pelosi and Democrats in the House and Senate passed another bill with a timetable for pullout. The lives of our young men and women serving overseas were so important that Democrats held onto that bill for four days so they could present it to the president on the fourth anniversary of his “Mission Accomplished” speech.
So, in a few months the Democrats will seek to send the troops just enough money for bus fare home.
In a historical perspective, there is one certainty: Nazi Germany wasn’t defeated because the allies only agreed to provide enough cash for the evacuation of Dunkirk.
But wait. In the Senate, there is one Democrat who is angry at the murderous savages who torture and kill the innocent. Robert Byrd is speaking out against those who inflict cruel and inhumane treatment — even going so far as to propose the death penalty for the evil-doers. Here’s one Democrat who’s not looking to cut and run from this scourge.
Al Qaeda? Heavens no. Michael Vick.
