Did Ramos and Compean Get Nifonged?

The story of jailed border agents Ramos and Compean gets more maddening every day. The only question now is how long the travesty will be allowed to continue:

The U.S. government admitted today in federal court that the prosecution’s star witness in the criminal trial of Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean – confessed drug dealer Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila – lied under oath.

“He told some lies on the stand,” Mark Stelmach, the assistant U.S. attorney representing prosecutor U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton said under questioning by a three-judge 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals panel in New Orleans.

A drug dealer lied under oath? Get out of here!

At least one of three judges from the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the government may have over-reacted in prosecuting Ramos and Compean.

Seeking convictions to advance some sort of political agenda? Gee, where have we heard this kind of story before? This could be another situation in which we need to impose “Nifong’s Law.”
