Time has claimed another American hero:
Raymond Jacobs, believed to be the last surviving member of the group of Marines photographed during the original U.S. flag-raising on Iwo Jima during World War II, has died at age 82.
Each passing day brings us a little closer to history repeating itself, mainly because those who were alive to offer firsthand reminders of past horrors, and the root causes of same, are departing at a quickened pace.
These days at least a third of Congress would have called for Jacobs to be expelled from the military for aiding in the unlawful spread of pro-American propaganda without court approval. The subsequent “environmental impact study” of WWII would have seen him court-martialed for sure.
