Time for Another ‘Gun Buyback’ in Chicago?

Chicago has some of the toughest gun laws in the nation, and it shows:

In an especially violent weekend, no less than 31 people have been shot in Chicago — six fatally — and two people have been stabbed since noon Friday. The shooting victims range in age from 12 to 65.

On Friday, 15 people were shot — four fatally — between noon Friday and midnight Saturday, police said.

Last summer, this was proudly reported:

A record number of gun owners turned in their guns to city officials, for a $100 incentive. Reportedly 6,705 weapons were turned in for the “no questions asked” program to get guns off the streets of Chicago.

The really pathetic part is that, for the boneheads on the Chicago City Council, the shootings over the weekend will be evidence that yet another “gun buyback” is in order, and that the value of the gift card clearly needs to be at least doubled.
