Taking a Chimp Shot at Politicians

nullThere seems to be some offense being taken to a bar owner in Georgia selling t-shirts that say “Obama 08” on them, below a picture of a monkey eating a banana.

The publisher of Curious George may sue because of the Obama shirt — either because they think it’s racist and an infringement of copyright, or because the bar owner let the cat out of the bag about their upcoming book, “Curious George Learns About Socialism.”

Is this t-shirt stupid, tasteless, childish and tacky? You bet. Racist? I’m really not sure… if it’s racist to compare Barack Obama to a chimp, then what is it when the same thing is done to George W. Bush?

There are websites aplenty on the Bush/chimp thing. BushorChimp.com is just one. SmirkingChimp is another. About.com even has an entire page of Bush/chimp side-by-side comparisons.

And it’s not just Bush and Obama. I even ran across a nightmare-inducing picture of Hillary Clinton as a monkey.

If chimps and monkeys continue to be compared to politicians, frankly, those who should be the most offended are chimps and monkeys.
