U.S. Suddenly Not Being Blamed for ‘Global Warming’?

The world changed on January 20th, 2009. Sure, history was made because the country’s first African-American president was sworn into office, but the United States also miraculously became less responsible for global warming.

Who’s taking the brunt of the blame now that Al Gore’s team of fundraisers/climatologists/ecologists is more hesitant to point an accusatory finger at the country that elected a president who’s going to throw billions of dollars at “global warming” salesmen?

When I saw a Reuters story entitled “Global warming worse than predicted,” I expected the usual “blame America” fare, but not this time:

The climate is heating up far faster than scientists had predicted, spurred by sharp increases in greenhouse gas emissions from developing countries like China and India, a top climate scientist said on Saturday.

“The consequence of that is we are basically looking now at a future climate that is beyond anything that we’ve considered seriously,” Chris Field, a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC, told the American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Chicago.

The meeting was in Chicago, so you can pretty much see why the U.S., and ergo Obama, escaped any blame this time around — plus the high in Chicago was about 35 on Saturday.

The IPCC, along with Al Gore, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, and both have worked closely together in pointing out what the United States needs to do before we all die. But that’s come to an end… for at least a day.

It’s hardly surprising that the current administration will probably escape IPCC blame for some time to come — given whose campaign Professor Field donated money to.

Unfortunately the next step for Gorebots will be to figure out a way to get the U.S. to pay for the “greening” of China and India. After all, we do use their imported goods and call centers, so we’re as much to blame.

Somewhat related addendum: Isn’t it strange how fatal heatwaves, tornados and hurricanes can be offered by some as “proof” of global warming, but that fatal cold snaps and blizzards are laughed at when offered as “proof” that their global warming theory is bunk?
