Another industry is firmly in the government’s pocket:
Congress sent legislation to the White House Friday granting the federal government unprecedented authority to regulate and restrict cigarettes, the single largest cause of preventable death.
President Barack Obama quickly expressed his support, appearing in the Rose Garden almost immediately after the House gave final approval to the bill giving the Food and Drug Administration control over tobacco production, marketing and sales.
Obama then took off down the block to fire up a Marlboro.
The government claims this is all about Americans’ health, but if you ask yourself, if cigarettes are so incredibly terrible, how come they don’t just ban them, you’ll get the answer “because of money” each and every time.
So hey, why shouldn’t we let an entity that cares more about our money than our health run the entire health care system, too? Great idea.
