Here in Michigan, with the unemployment rate hovering around 15%, Democrats have just the answer — strapping small business even more:

The Michigan Democratic Party is considering asking voters to raise the state’s minimum wage to $10 an hour.

The minimum wage currently is $7.40 an hour.

The potential 2010 ballot initiative was among a few discussed Wednesday by party chairman Mark Brewer.

At least it’s a potential ballot initiative, which means that voters may be asked to vote “yes” on chasing even more businesses out of the state and costing us more jobs — and many will vote for it. There’s precedent for such stupidity…

A couple of years ago Governor Granholm promoted a petition on the State of Michigan website that people could sign to demand action against high gas prices and “obscene” oil company profits. What was not mentioned was detail that was reported by the Detroit News at the time: The Michigan state worker pension system held $832 million worth of Exxon-Mobil stock.

Granholm was in essence encouraging state employees to sign a petition demanding the devaluation of their own pensions — and many of them went along with it!

This is the kind of brilliant leadership and rank-and-file lemming-like following of same that we’re up against here in Michigan. And Granholm is now one of Obama’s economic advisers. Sheesh.

And now for something completely different… a Monty Python sketch dedicated to Michigan Democrats and the majority of the U.S. Congress — “Village Idiots”:
