Even if we’re in the midst of a botched government health care nightmare in a few years — sitting in a waiting room that makes the evacuation of Dunkirk look like a short line — President Obama only seems to be concerned about the effect it would have on him:
BARACK Obama has ramped up his sales pitch to win public support for US health reform, declaring he wants to remain President for a while and would accept personal blame for failure.
As tens of thousands of protesters marched through Washington, D.C. to oppose big government as part of a media blitz to try to outgun loud opponents of his plan to extend health insurance to millions of uninsured Americans while also cutting costs, the US President said he wanted to “own” the health package that was eventually passed.
“I have no interest in having a bill get passed that fails,” Mr Obama said in an excerpt from a US 60 Minutes interview to be aired today.
“So I have every incentive to get this right.”
“I” “I” “Me” “I” — will Obamacare cover treatment for overdosing on narcissism?
Shouldn’t politicians accept personal blame for the failure of all the crap they foist upon us?
Obama should have every incentive to get everything right, but look at the Cash for Clunkers budget incompetence, the failed stimulus that has done nothing but stimulate the unemployment office (but created a greater need for a gov’t health plan, which is why the skyrocketing unemployment rate isn’t necessarily an immediate emergency), and General Motors, who declared bankruptcy as soon as the government took it over, but only after throwing a mind-boggling amount of “bailout” money their way. Fail, epic fail, and fail again.
If the health care system in the United States ends up on the ash heap of history due to this unprecedented power and money grab, the fact that Obama is promising to jump up and say “Whoops! My bad!” doesn’t do much to sway my opinion on the issue. Obama will “own” the bill, but he’ll never “own” the actual health care services, or lack thereof, that come out of it. It’s not good enough for his family, but it will be for yours.
If the Dem leadership really wants to convince us that the government plan is so great, then the president — not to mention Obamacare supporters in Congress — will sign a pledge saying that the only health insurance they will ever carry for their families is the government program. This is the only way Obama and Congress can truly “own” their health plan. Don’t hold your breath. Obama, Pelosi, Reid, etc. do not intend to “own” their health care plan — they intend for you to own it, and to pay for it.
If Obama was so intent on accepting responsibility for the success or failure of the program and the health of Americans is actually at the “crisis” stage, wouldn’t he want it to kick in before the next presidential election instead of just after, so voters can let him know if they’re happy with it or not?
The fact that Obama & Company are such a hurry to pass the plan but in no rush to implement it tells me that they’re not expecting it to work very well but would really like to start raking in the cash right now. Some “acceptance of responsibility.”
