Shortly before the Senate voted to sodomize America yet again, Republican Sen. Coburn took to the floor and said the following:

“What the American people ought to pray is that somebody can’t make the vote tonight. That’s what they ought to pray.”

As it turns out, this really ticked off Democrats. At first I thought it was just because Coburn was encouraging Americans to pray, but the problem was what he was asking them to pray for. Dems took it to mean that Coburn was asking America to pray for Robert Byrd to fall ill:

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the number-two Democratic leader, went to the floor to complain about Coburn’s unholy prayer, which followed an unsuccessful request from Democrats for an earlier vote because of Byrd’s “significant health problems.” Said Durbin: “When it reaches a point where we’re praying, asking people to pray, that senators wouldn’t be able to answer the roll call, I think it has crossed the line.”

I heard Coburn say that, but it never occurred to me he was wishing ill on Robert Byrd and being mean-spirited (if Coburn really wanted to be mean, he’d have said something like “Hopefully a Klan rally breaks out somewhere and Robert Byrd is unable to make the vote”). I assumed that Coburn was talking about the weather outside keeping some senators from making it in time.

To be honest, I’ve prayed for Senators not to be able to make a roll call before, but never for them to literally fall ill. To be busted in a bribery sting or get caught with a hooker should be enough to keep them from making a vote, so that’s usually the angle I take when I hit my knees at bedtime.

Below is Dick “The Turban” Durbin believing in and fearing the power of prayer — but what he should be doing is praising God, because you’ll notice that if Coburn was indeed asking Americans to pray for Robert Byrd to fall ill so he couldn’t vote, and some Americans did pray for that, then the answer that came back from on high was a resounding “no.”

Frankly I’m surprised Durbin didn’t take the opportunity to use Coburn’s denied prayer as evidence that God is not only a Democrat, but wants Obamacare to pass:
