Some of these Department of Homeland Security people are making Barney Fife look like Walker, Texas Ranger:

Nearly 180 Department of Homeland Security weapons were lost — some falling into the hands of criminals — after officers left them in restrooms, vehicles and other public places, according to an inspector general report.

The officers, with Customs and Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, “did not always sufficiently safeguard their firearms and, as a result, lost a significant number of firearms” between fiscal year 2006 and fiscal year 2008, the report said.

And this report covers a time before Janet Napolitano — perhaps the most bumbling cop since Slim and Tubby in Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde — was appointed to head the DHS. I can’t imagine things have gotten a lot better.

I carry a gun each and every day I go to work. It sits in it's holster at my side where I always know its location….I can not conceive of leaving it in the restroom or vehicle, or anywhere else for that matter. I do know without a doubt what would happen to me if I "lost" it ! I wander if they lost their jobs as I would if I left my firearm laying somewhere for children or criminals to get ahold of ?
