I was 14 years old at the time and remember it vividly. I still can’t watch it without getting chills. Hard to believe it’s been 30 years.

Below is the final minute of the “Miracle on Ice” with the US leading the Soviet Union 4-3. In the next game the USA went on to defeat Finland for the gold, and shortly thereafter, Ronald Reagan went on to defeat Jimmy Carter. It was a great way to end an otherwise malaise-addled 1980:

    @DougPowers I can't decide if I'm more freaked out that it's been 30 years or finding out that that you're younger than me.

    This is my #1 proudest moment as a hockey fan! I still cry every time they show the clips! USA! USA! USA!

    During the 1980 Winter Olympics, I was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier Forrestal. We were on station in the Eastern Med at the time. We heard the score of the game a few hours after it ended, and finally got to see it when a copy arrived on the ship courtesy of AFRTS, and was broadcast over the ship's TV station. It still seems like it was yesterday.
