This new suggestion for “exposing Al Qaeda as dumb,” and therefore an uncool alternative for potential recruits, sounds almost exactly like the “Crash the Tea Party” plan that turned into a massively embarrassing uber-fail.

Satire and ridicule can help win the fight against Al-Qaeda by stripping it of its glamour and mystique, a team of researchers argue in a report released in London and in comments to AFP.
Beating the Islamist movement is as much about winning the battle of ideas and undermining Al-Qaeda’s counter-culture cachet as it is about conventional anti-terrorism operations, said the report.
“Terrorism must be defeated through the deliberate ‘toxification’ of the al-Qaeda brand; not by making it seem dangerous, but by exposing it as dumb,” Jamie Bartlett, one of the report’s authors, told AFP.
After I read this I figured that since the Crash the Tea Party boneheads might be looking for something else to do ineffectively, maybe they could turn their sights on Al Qaeda. Sure, they probably think the Tea Party is a greater threat to their hopes and dreams of one day having full access to your bank account number, but I can picture it already:
A few years ago, Saturday Night Live satirized and ridiculed Al Qaeda, and as far as I know this didn’t go a long way towards bringing the terrorist organization to its knees:
