Gibbs: Obama Didn’t Take Goldman Sachs Donations, He Won’t Return it, and They Shouldn’t Have Given it to Him Anyway Knowing How Much He Hates Wall Street

Or something like that…

Normally you have to travel to the Amazon to see snakes the size of Robert Gibbs. If you watch the video you’ll notice Gibbs says Obama didn’t take PAC money from Goldman.

Here’s Open Secrets’ list of top Obama campaign donors, with the explanation of the chart first:

This table lists the top donors to this candidate in the 2008 election cycle. The organizations themselves did not donate , rather the money came from the organization’s PAC, its individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals’ immediate families.

University of California $1,591,395
Goldman Sachs $994,795
Harvard University $854,747
Microsoft Corp $833,617
Google Inc $803,436
Citigroup Inc $701,290
JPMorgan Chase & Co $695,132

So yes, he took a ton of Goldman cash, PAC or otherwise.

Gibbs did have something kind of correct when he in essence said this: “They gave Obama money knowing he hated them, so it’s their fault.”

It also ensures a nice “circle of life” though. Like I wrote the other day, Goldman Sachs didn’t get an Obama-induced taxpayer bailout because they were too big to fail — they got it because without Wall Street’s money, Democrats will fail.

Wall Street and Washington now have a nice little “Pimp & Whore” arrangement worked out — it’s just that I haven’t yet figured out which is which.
