Fox News has a story about a small printing company called Wilder Publications that has been putting the following disclaimer on copies of the Constitution, Declaration of Independence and other historical documents:

null

If you can’t read the disclaimer, it says “This book is a product of its time and does not reflect the same values as it would if it were written today. Parents might wish to discuss with their children how views on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and interpersonal relations have changed since this book was written before allowing them to read this classic work.”

A glance at the company’s website makes it apparent it’s a dink operation, but still, parents might also want to discuss with their children what asshats run Wilder Publishing before reading the disclaimer.

Actually, given the way things have been going, I can’t believe the disclaimer thing took so long.

What has become of us if we have reached the point where the Constitution comes with a parental warning that the values it represents are aberrant to modern society and might be harmful to children? I suspect this was just somebody's dumb idea and we really aren't that far gone yet.

I am amazed that they have also re-copyrighted the Constitution. Does the Supreme Court know that they cannot quote it except for review purposes?

"This book is a product of its time and does not reflect the same values as it would if it were written today."

Well, they got that part right. The decline of values is the very reason kids should read of the real values that were the foundation of this democracy. Geez, it's hard to get kids today to read Harry Potter, leave alone the Constitution and Declaration. I suspect parents who encourage their kids to read this have traditional values in mind.

Read the copyright, it was copyrighted in 2007! Way before Obama was in office, it was copyrighted when Bush was in office-so there for your comment holds no water for this article.
