US Labor Secretary Buys American, in an ‘Obama’s Jobs Tour Bus’ Kind of Way

During President Obama’s midwest bus tour, he promoted US jobs by cruising around in a bus that was mostly manufactured in Canada. His Labor Secretary learned from observing her boss’s embarrassing lesson… or maybe not:

To show her support for American workers, President Obama’s labor secretary, Hilda Solis, has junked the standard black limo and purchased a new Chevrolet Equinox to ride around Washington in. The problem: the crossover SUV is built and assembled in Canada from parts also made in Canada.

Solis proudly arrived at a media breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor today in the shiny silver vehicle, which she has dubbed the “bullet.” She was asked about why she traded the standard-issue limo for the SUV. “What better example could I set if I encouraged my staff to go and purchase and seek how we could acquire a vehicle that would for me would send a signal that we’re for supporting our American workers, American-made products, fuel efficient as well,” she told the Monitor’s Dave Cook, who provided this video of her answer.

Well, North American made anyway…

But here’s the real “prestige” of the joke. After being informed that the the “buy American” Secretary’s SUV wasn’t made in the United States, the Labor Department pinched off a serious “six degrees of economic separation” pile of Pelosi:

When Whispers notified her office that her “American-made” car was actually Canadian, Labor spokesman Carl Fillichio said, “Modern automobile manufacturing is a global industry and General Motors is a company whose reach extends far beyond the boundaries of the United States.”

Eh, at least it sounds better than “we don’t back up our BS talking points by actually researching where the stuff we buy with American taxpayers’ money is made.”

So by that line of reasoning we can buy something made in any country and we’re still “supporting American workers”? I’ll bet the US union leaders would have a different opinion, provided this administration didn’t have them firmly in their pockets (and ours) already.

    Pick! Yeah, as I said at Michelle's place, Screw Obama and his Jobs 'Lecture'. BTDT. Those nearing retirement have pulled the plug, couples have done the coin toss to see who's working, who's stayin' home and WHAT they can afford and Peggy The Mooch is well, a moocher.

    We've already MADE our peace w/ the New Normal pRez. Multiple generations living under the same roof. Job sharing, PT work, being a one-car family. Vacationing LOCAL. Basic/NO cable.

    Other than the 20% ( or LESS ) extemists on The Hard Left, does anyone really believe this putz is about 'jobs'? And who should doubt him more than the Black Community?

    This administration makes the girls from clueless look good. I mean really, No one even checked on the origin of the vehicle before claiming they were supporting American jobs? It's like the Marx Bros and Larry, Moe and Curly had a convention with Abbott and Costello to decide who would do the latest comedy bit… And that makes me believe that it is actually possible this administration was not aware of the scheduled Republican debate because no one is fact checking anything!!! dumb and Dumber goes to Washington instead of Mr. Smith.

    I for one am shocked that the communists running our nation are hypocrites who are living in nice houses and making a profit on the system rather than actually believing what they say… it's almost as if they are more about power than American workers…

    Very most definitely. You're right, and this puts their endless disconnects w/ common sense on display. Normally I buy cars that are 1 to 3 years old but all one need do is check the door jamb of the vehicle to see Country of Origin and % of U.S parts in the car.

    You don't even have to know how to "get under the hood"! Of course most Marxist Elitists have someone else open the car door and DRIVE them! Hilda Hilda Hilda.

    Oh hey and welcome aboard. Mark Levin has been keen to point out that 49% of our teachers ARE Conservative ( but they've been browbeat into compliance! ) What is the slant, 95% of their contributions swing Dem..? 49/51 and 5/95. Seems 'fair' enough to me!

    Amazing!!!! It is pointed out that the vehicle was made in Canada and their response is for all practically purposes….you took it out of context……what else can they do to embarrass themselves?
