$16 trillion-plus here we come! But you’re already aware that we need to spend money to keep from going bankrupt.

From Reuters:

The White House plans to ask Congress by the end of the week for an increase in the government’s debt ceiling to allow the United States to pay its bills on time, according to a senior Treasury Department official on Tuesday.

The approval is expected to go through without a challenge, given that Congress is in recess until later in January and the request is in line with an agreement to keep the U.S. government funded into 2013.

The debt is projected to fall within $100 billion of the current cap by December 30, when the United States has $82 billion in interest on its debt and payments such as Social Security coming due. President Barack Obama is expected to ask for authority to increase the borrowing limit by $1.2 trillion, part of the spending authority that was negotiated between Congress and the White House this summer.
The deal called for raising the debt ceiling by $2.1 trillion to serve the nation’s borrowing needs into 2013 and also included mandatory cuts to the federal budget deficit. Since then, the extension has been increased twice by a total of $900 billion.

The debt limit currently stands at $15.194 trillion and would increase to $16.394 trillion with the request.

Yep, we’re right on target:

“Unpatriotic” even by Obama’s definition:

Update: Here’s the headline of the day.

Obama inherited the debt problem. He couldn't help it the voters put Democrats in control of Congress.

Would you mind if I pay my credit card bill by charging it to my credit card? Great! I knew you'd understand!

Before when Obadopey said this kind of tripe I used to think, "well h*ll, it can't get stupider than that!" Then it does. Stupid upon stupid upon… I think it's infinite. A stupid space/time continuum.

We have all left the last universe….the 11th dimension is in the Lincoln bedroom…turn right at the bedpost…walk through the fireplace, and go into the 9th dimension where you will find Obama…selling cocaine in Miami…

The real problem we've got is that there's not one re-publican candidate that wouldn't do the same thing.

A billboard size poster of that graph needs to be put into the House and Senate chambers, along with another with the (real) unemployment rate. They need to be constantly reminded why they are there.

Track this wayward thinking to Clinton's "Peace Dividend" going back to the end of the Cold War. Progs have long foamed at the mouth whenever they saw the DOD Budget.

End our military presence in Germany and the Korean Penninsula and spend those tax dollars on 'productive' stuff. Like Midnight Basketball in the 'hood. Between Acorn and AmeriCorps, midnight b'balling be lookin' like a bargain?

Of course He makes no mention of WHERE those Tril. some odd dollars might 'go' and HOW they might be spent!? Only that He needs them…

And what is worse is that the R's in Congress that crafted and voted for the compromise last August gave him the power to not only ask for, but recieve the additional 1.2 trillion. Now that he has requested it Congress has 15 days to vote to dissaprove it (which isnt going ot happen cause they are not in session). If they managed to vote to dissaprove Obama could then veto their dissaproval and get the money anway.

Talk about compromising our great-great-great-great-grandchildrens future.

An even bigger problem is that we do not have enough Conservatives in Congress to stop the President (and other members of Congress) from pulling this garbage.

If we had a Congress that did not reliquish their power (remember they have the power of the purse) then we would not be in this position. That is why I whave pretty much written off the presidential elelction and looking at working as hard as I can to get as many Conservatives elected to Congress as possible. The Senate has 23 dem seats up for re-election and we could easily pcik off a bunch of seats in the House. We also need to primary as many RINO's in Congress as possible.
