Wow, let it never be said that President Obama doesn’t choose ambassadors that share his (mis)management style:

Candidate Barack Obama promised to end the time-honored American practice of appointing ambassadors who have no experience in foreign policy, but President Obama has completely ignored that promise, appointing fundraisers to dozens of ambassadorships all over the world.

Today, the State Department revealed that another fundraiser turned ambassador ran her embassy into the ground … only to return to fundraising and leave the State Department to pick up the pieces.

According to a new State Department inspector general’s report on the U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas, Ambassador Nicole Avant presided over “an extended period of dysfunctional leadership and mismanagement, which has caused problems throughout the embassy” since she was appointed by the president in 2009. Prior to being America’s envoy in the Caribbean, Avant was Southern California finance co-chairwoman of Obama’s presidential campaign and vice president of Interior Music Publishing.

According to her glowingly positive Wikipedia page, Avant spent her time in the Bahamas “focused on five priority initiatives: Education, Alternative Energy, Economic and Small Business Development, Women’s Empowerment and Raising awareness of the challenges facing people with disabilities.”

But according to the State Department’s internal investigation, Avant was away from the embassy an inordinate amount of time — mainly shuttling back and forth to her home in Los Angeles — and when she was in town, she worked from her residence most of the day.

Avant was absent from the embassy 276 days between September 2009 and November 2011, including 102 “personal” days and 77 “work travel” days to the United States, of which only 23 were on official orders.

“Her extensive travel out of country and preference to work from the Ambassador’s residence for a significant portion of the work day contributed to a perception of indifference,” the report states. “The frequent absences of the Ambassador contributed to poor mission management.”

Hauntingly familiar, isn’t it? How this woman didn’t end up in Obama’s cabinet is beyond me. Of course, according to Obama, he’s got five years left in his presidency, so maybe we’ll be seeing more of Nicole Avant.

She’s since been dispatched to Hollywood to mend fences between Obama and temporarily disgruntled whiffle-brained Tinseltown lefties who will end up voting for him again anyway.

Nice job; if they can't find someone soon, I'll take it.

This, and what for the last three years has been seen in Chicago on the Potomac, is what happens when people get all the way to adulthood without ever being required to perform in a structured and disciplined environment.

"but President Obama has completely ignored that promise, appointing fundraisers to dozens of ambassadorships all over the world."

Actually they do have experience…..experience in getting overseas contributions into his campaign coffers.

From the sounds of it she was just following Obama and Moochelle's lead by going on vacation after vacation while promosing lofty goals that will never be attained.

Lighten up folks, ambassadoring is HARD !

Holy balls! Check out this from the linked story about the former Luxembourg ambassador, Cynthia Stroum.

"The situation was so bad that the inspector general recommended that the State Department dispatch medical personnel to Luxembourg to test the stress levels of embassy employees. It said at least four staffers quit or sought transfers to Iraq and Afghanistan during her tenure"

How big a see-you-next-tuesday must this woman be that people were begging to be transferred to Afghanistan?

Can anyone here name one – just one- competent person that he has appointed to any position?

  8. SignPainterGuy on February 24th, 2012 5:36 pm

Assuming, with confidence, that you mean "competent to perform properly in the conservative, traditionally constitutionally mandated sense", no, not even one !

As a matter of fact, he has consistently appointed the opposite of the type person needed for the job, assuming once again, that the job was needed in the first place !

    Angus,

It would be funny if not for being so sad. Knew lots of Marines that drew Embassy Duty ( thinking it would be 'cake' ) only to find lots of weekends, nights, holidays etc.

Can we SHUTTER these pictures of inefficiency now? After everything that's unraveled, how can we expect anyone to take them seriously? Total waste of tax payer money. See ya'!

I can't speak for what the Baghdad Embassy is like now, but when I was there in 2004 as part of the Ambassadors convoy security (The Army handled that while the Marines handled the grounds security) the embassy was the place to be. Good food, a nice pool, and there is nothing quite like taking a leak in a gold plated urinal.

Actually I can…..Gen Pratraeus to the head of the CIA. God knows the CIA needs a shake up and Patraeus strikes me as the kind of military officer that could do it.

Of course Gen Pratraeus was the essence of evil when Bush was in office according to the left and their Gen Betrayus ads.

  12. SignPainterGuy on February 24th, 2012 11:27 pm

Good thinking; Gen. Petraeus should be quite good as head of the CIA, IF he`s allowed to by the entrenched libs already there !

Soooo, that`s ONE out of what seems like a record number of appointments !

    Gold 'plated'? An insult..!

Unlike a lot of these [apparent?] EINO's Embassy In Name… Manila was operated at Max. capacity every bus. day of the year. The guards earned their keep and were as disciplined as the Beefeater's at Buckingham.

No chumming it up w/ your fellow grunts. Straight laced stuff! That aside, ever wonder where all those royalties to all those great Motown hits went? Here ya' go! Nicole is daughter to one of the founders of Stax Records.

As close to Detroit Royalty as it comes. Other than Gordie Howe? Anyway, her dad always backed the Clintons but heiress parted company and evidently it paid off. Reading her bio, she's never had to work a day in her life.

    Prog-perfection!

Sure is! Just ask Jethro Bodine.

Didn`t Jethro get all the Cheerios he could eat ? And didn`t he get to lay in bed til, oh, 8: or so ?

My thinking on this is that Patreaus had done to good of a job with the surge in Iraq and was set to do the same in Afghanistan. Obama could not have that happen because it would ruin his pullout strategy. So he figured put Patreaus in at the CIA and he can have the liberal minions there keep an eye on him. Patreaus would go, becuase he sees it as serving his country. The problem the libs at the CIA are going to have to worry about is that Patreaus is not the typical beuaracrat and wont put up with their BS. He has being in SOC for so long and seen sh!t and done sh!t that would make many of the CIA weenies piss their pants. He wont scare easy and he will expect the job to get done in a proffesional matter.

I just hope whomever the GOP candidate that gets the nominee wins, so they can not only leave Patreaus in place at the CIA, but give him the power to weed out all those who want to put political ideology above the job of keeping the country safe.
