‘Happy Halloween’ Open Thread — Plus ‘How to Turn Trick-or-Treaters Into Conservatives’ Video

Only one of my three kids is still young enough to go trick-or-treating, and time is running out on that. So I’ll be out tonight with him enjoying one of the final go-rounds on the free candy trail — possibly confiscating a candy bar here and there for “safety check” purposes.

If you have a couple minutes, this video featuring Steven Crowder teaching trick-or-treaters all about redistributionism is worth it. Hopefully this is a lesson that stick so hard that their future college profs can’t knock it out of their heads:

Gingrich: US Senator Told Me at Least 2 Networks Have NSA Emails Ordering ‘Stand Down’ on Benghazi Rescue

President Obama, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Joe Biden met as the Benghazi attack unfolded. Presumably a decision or two other than “I think I’ll go to Vegas now” was made and some directives were given.

Fast forward to last night:

On Tuesday night’s “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren” on the Fox News Channel, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said that major news networks might have secret emails proving that the White House canceled plans to assist the besieged U.S. Embassy in Benghazi.

Gingrich said that the bombshell emails could be revealed within the next two days.

“There is a rumor — I want to be clear, it’s a rumor — that at least two networks have emails from the National Security Adviser’s office telling a counterterrorism group to stand down,” Gingrich said. “But they were a group in real-time trying to mobilize marines and C-130s and the fighter aircraft, and they were told explicitly by the White House stand down and do nothing. This is not a terrorist action. If that is true, and I’ve been told this by a fairly reliable U.S. senator, if that is true and comes out, I think it raises enormous questions about the president’s role, and Tom Donilon, the National Security Adviser’s role, the Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, who has taken it on his own shoulders, that he said don’t go. And that is, I think, very dubious, given that the president said he had instructions they are supposed to do everything they could to secure American personnel.”

“Gingrich said that the bombshell emails could be revealed within the next two days.” It wouldn’t surprise me in the least that if such emails exist, some pissed off intel employee angered by all the attempts to throw the CIA and others under the bus over this debacle probably did the leaking. But does anybody honestly believe that NBC, et al, would release these before the election? If Fox News is one of the two networks Newt’s referring to, that would happen, but I don’t think CNN, CBS, ABC or NBC would release them before the election. If Obama wins they probably wouldn’t release them after the election, either.

The mainstream media, with the exception of Fox News and select reporters, are burying the Benghazi story in general — let alone any extra evidence that may exist proving that Obama lied, and our people died.

But maybe the nets will have to mention it soon. Even Jay Leno is joking about the Obama administration’s non-transparency on Benghazi:

Noted Climatologist Asks ‘Fellow Republicans’: Think Climate Change is Real Now?

Make sure you don’t have a mouthful of your favorite beverage of choice before reading the part referring to Meghan McCain as a “political analyst.” That’s like calling Chelsea Clinton a “seasoned news reporter.”

From The Hill:

Political analyst Meghan McCain, daughter of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), is challenging widespread GOP skepticism about climate change in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

“So are we still going to go with climate change not being real fellow republicans [sic]?” McCain wrote, via Twitter, around midnight as the storm was slamming ashore.
[…]
The Washington Post closely examines the climate change-storm nexus here, while NPR explores it here.

Both outlets look at a 2012 study by the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change on extreme weather and climate change.

That study finds that researchers currently have “low confidence” in tying cyclone activity in recent decades to climate change.

“Ommigod she was like ‘believe in climate change now’ and I was all like ‘Al Gore is a scammer’ and she was like ‘you are like so in denial’ and I was all like ‘you are!’

For the record, I believe these things are due to climate change — but not the kind of climate change McCain’s referring to (the “let’s all help make Al Gore a billionaire” kind), but rather the kind of cyclical climate change that’s been going on for a long, long time. Look it up, Meghan… there were nasty weather events long before the invention of the gas powered leaf blower and coal furnace.

I like Meghan McCain best when she’s actively trying to save the planet by reducing CO2 emissions:

Retired Chief of US Pacific Fleet: Ignoring Pleas for Assistance From Those Under Attack in Benghazi ‘Incomprehensible and Un-American’

Retired Adm. James A. Lyons, who was commander in chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, wrote an op-ed about the Benghazi attack that appeared in the Washington Times. It’s pretty condemning. Here’s a portion:

The Obama national security team, including CIA, DNI, State Department and the Pentagon, watched and listened to the assault but did nothing to answer repeated calls for assistance. It has been reported that President Obama met with Vice President Joseph R. Biden and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta in the Oval Office, presumably to see what support could be provided. After all, we had very credible military resources within striking distance. At our military base in Sigonella, Sicily, which is slightly over 400 miles from Benghazi, we had a fully equipped Special Forces unit with both transport and jet strike aircraft prepositioned. Certainly this was a force much more capable than the 22-man force from our embassy in Tripoli.

I know those Special Forces personnel were ready to leap at the opportunity. There is no doubt in my mind they would have wiped out the terrorists attackers. Also I have no doubt that Admiral William McRaven, Commander of U.S. Special Operations Command, would have had his local commander at Sigonella ready to launch; however, apparently he was countermanded—by whom? We need to know.

I also understand we had a C-130 gunship available, which would have quickly disposed of the terrorist attackers. This attack went on for seven hours. Our fighter jets could have been at our Benghazi mission within an hour. Our Special Forces out of Sigonella could have been there within a few hours. There is not any doubt that action on our part could have saved the lives of our two former Navy SEALs and possibly the ambassador.

Having been in a number of similar situations, I know you have to have the courage to do what’s right and take immediate action. Obviously, that courage was lacking for Benghazi. The safety of your personnel always remains paramount. With all the technology and military capability we had in theater, for our leadership to have deliberately ignored the pleas for assistance is not only in incomprehensible, it is un-American.

Ouch.

New York Times presidential endorsements over the years

I was reading a list of all the New York Times presidential endorsements over the years. The last Republican the New York Times endorsed was Eisenhower in 1956. This means they’ve endorsed Carter twice, Mondale and Dukakis once each, and of course Obama twice now.

Under each choice is a couple of sentences justifying the endorsement. This is the quote for the Times’ endorsement of Bill Clinton’s second term:

nytclinton

If you can’t read that, the Times wrote in 1996, “The Presidency he once dreamed is still within his reach if he brings the requisite integrity to the next four years.”

And how’d that work out?

monicabill

Almost as funny, the Times’ 2012 endorsement for the re-election of Obama says that he’s done a good job of “forming sensible budget policies that are not dedicated to protecting the powerful.” And by “powerful” I assume they mean “people with jobs.”

If Obama’s policies aren’t dedicated to protecting the powerful, why are there still headlines like “The Rich Get Even Richer” in the New York Times? Also in the Times, the poor are poorer. Great budget policies. Actually, the Times is wrong on that count too because the Democrats don’t have budget policies.

Video: Kids Sing About What Failed D-Bags Their Parents are if They Vote for Romney or Something

The latest creepy “brainwashed kids singing” video is out. The “get out and vote” video, produced by the Goodby Silverstein & Partners ad agency (of “Got Milk?” fame), smacks of “Mmm Mmm Mmm” except with slicker production values and laced with doom and gloom instead of the “Dear Leader will save us” hypnotic optimism of 2008.

At no point are Obama or Romney mentioned by name, but gee, I wonder which way the people who produced this lean:

The lyrics:

Imagine an America
Where strip mines are fun and free
Where gays can be fixed
And sick people just die
And oil fills the sea

We don’t have to pay for freeways!
Our schools are good enough
Give us endless wars
On foreign shores
And lots of Chinese stuff

We’re the children of the future
American through and through
But something happened to our country
And we’re kinda blaming you

We haven’t killed all the polar bears
But it’s not for lack of trying
Big Bird is sacked
The Earth is cracked
And the atmosphere is frying

Congress went home early
They did their best we know
You can’t cut spending
With elections pending
Unless it’s welfare dough

We’re the children of the future
American through and through
But something happened to our country
And we’re kinda blaming you

Find a park that is still open
And take a breath of poison air
They foreclosed your place
To build a weapon in space
But you can write off your au pair

It’s a little awkward to tell you
But you left us holding the bag
When we look around
The place is all dumbed down
And the long term’s kind of a drag

We’re the children of the future
American through and through
But something happened to our country
And yeah, we’re blaming you

You did your best
You failed the test

Mom and Dad
We’re blaming you!

Kids coaxed into collective song like indoctrinated North Korean zombies are warning against the U.S. getting dumbed down?

It’s almost as if somebody forgot to tell those kids that they already owe over $16 trillion and it’s going up fast thanks to the people who are using them for crap like this.

Benghazi: How Did Obama Not Know?

Somebody in the Obama administration made the decision not to send help to rescue Ambassador Stevens and three others who were targeted in a terrorist attack in Benghazi last month. President Obama, after being pressed by a reporter about who denied requests for help during the attack, said “we’re still finding out exactly what happened.”

A caller to Rush Limbaugh yesterday claimed to be a former special ops planner, and he outlined how this probably would have played out, and how it would have been almost impossible for Obama to not know about the request for help and to not have been the one who made the call to stand down on a rescue attempt. The caller said that something on the magnitude of an ambassador in peril would have made whether or not to proceed with a rescue a presidential decision from the start:

Remember also that the attack wasn’t just a lightning fast three minute assault that was over before anybody in Washington could have ordered a reaction — it went on for several hours. The CIA has said nobody in their organization ordered anybody not to help (Obama goes under the bus). Who was it then? The odds are overwhelming that we won’t find out until after the election.

But at least the Obama administration, for a little while anyway, has a reason to like Condoleezza Rice.

Joe Biden’s Gaffe of the Day

For those of you keeping score at home, this means that Romney and Ryan have given over $4 billion in tax cuts to each of 120,000 families:

“But you can’t erase what you’ve already done, they’ve voted to extend tax cuts for the very wealthy, giving a $500 trillion dollar tax-cut to 120,000 families.”

Literally!

I might have been wrong to call it a “gaffe.” The Obama administration is getting so intentionally over-the-top in all their claims that this probably wasn’t an accident:

Bonus coverage of Plugs…

Biden in Ohio: Hey, how about all those political ads that are being run here in Iowa?

And yet the party that’s proud to have Biden near the top of the ticket posts a picture of Mitt Romney wearing a dunce cap?

Once Again, Joe Biden Makes Us Proud

Joe Biden is often just a goofball circus clown side attraction and we have a lot of fun at his expense, but sometimes he’s an outright embarrassment:

The father of one of the former Navy SEALs killed in the terrorist attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya says President Barack Obama wouldn’t even look him in the eye and Vice President Joe Biden was disrespectful during the ceremony when his son’s body returned to America. He also says the White House’s story on the attack doesn’t pass the smell test.

Charles Woods, father of Tyrone Woods, called into “The Glenn Beck Program” on TheBlazeTV Thursday and recounted his interactions with the president, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Biden at the ceremony for the Libya victims at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. He told host Glenn Beck that what they told him, coupled with new reports that indicate the Obama administration knew very good and well, almost immediately, that a terrorist attack was occurring in Benghazi, make him certain that the American people are not getting the whole truth.

Vice President Biden, as he has become known to do, reportedly made a wildly inappropriate comment to the father who had just lost his hero son.

Woods said Biden came over to his family and asked in a “loud and boisterous” voice, “Did your son always have balls the size of cue balls?”

Did Joe Biden always have a brain the size of a walnut?

From the same story, we can add this to the “we said it was a planned terrorist attack all along” file as contradictory evidence:

Hillary Clinton’s comments to Woods raise even more questions about the White House’s official story on the Benghazi attack, which has already been extremely inconsistent.

After apologizing for his loss, Woods said Clinton told him that the U.S. would “make sure that the person who made that film is arrested and prosecuted.”

In other words, Hillary told him “We’ll avenge your son by bringing freedom of speech to its knees!” A pitifully ironic thing to say to the father of a man who served in a force dedicated to preserving, protecting and defending those very rights.

Ted Turner — Still Insane After All These Years

Eco-lunatic and enviro-hypocrite Ted Turner is still doing his stuff, but these comments during a discussion about more soldiers dying from suicides than in combat is even more twisted than his usual fare:

Appearing on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight on Wednesday’s evening, CNN founder Ted Turner said it is “good” that more U.S. soldiers are now dying by suicide than in combat.

Morgan said: “You made the point to me in the break there that more American servicemen are–

Turner interrupted: –are dying now from suicide over there than are dying in combat.”

Morgan asked: “I mean, that’s shocking isn’t it?”

“Well, what, no,” Turner said. “I think it’s good, because it’s so clear that we are programmed, and we’re born, to love and help each other, not to kill each other, destroy each other,” the media mogul said. “That’s an aberration, that’s left over from hundreds of years ago. It’s time for us to start acting enlightened.”

The clip below ends just before Nurse Ratched arrived with Ted’s meds cup, but I can’t even muster further comment on that.
