This is totally believable — as a matter of fact, I’d have been surprised to learn otherwise:

When President Barack Obama stepped off the stage in Denver last week the 60 million Americans watching the debate against Mitt Romney already knew it had been a disaster for him.

But what nobody knew, until now, was that Obama believed he had actually won.

In an extraordinary insight into the events leading up to the 90 minute showdown which changed the face of the election, a Democrat close to the Obama campaign today reveals that the President also did not take his debate preparation seriously, ignored the advice of senior aides and ignored one-liners that had been prepared to wound Romney.

The Democrat said that Obama’s inner circle was dismayed at the ‘disaster’ and that he believed the central problem was that the President was so disdainful of Romney that he didn’t believe he needed to engage with him.

‘President Obama made it clear he wanted to be doing anything else – anything – but debate prep,’ the Democrat said. ‘He kept breaking off whenever he got the opportunity and never really focused on the event.

‘He went into the debate armed with a number of one-liners to throw at Romney, including at least two about Romney not caring about 47 per cent of the country. But he decided not to use them.’

The Democrat, who is aligned with the Obama campaign and has been an unofficial adviser on occasions, said that David Axelrod, Obama’s chief strategist, was stunned that the President left the stage feeling that he had won the debate.

Why would a person who’s never been properly challenged by the mainstream press or told that he’s anything but totally awesome assume there’s an option other than “I won”?

By the way, 72 percent of the debate viewers thought Romney won. A Gallup record.

Jim Lehrer really screwed Obama though by not including any questions about the Hoover Dam or golf.

Just more proof of Obama being a classic case study for narcissistic personality disorder at any med school.

  2. Granny55 on October 9th, 2012 6:38 pm

Totally clueless, classless and apparently not very smart. Who woulda thunk……

  3. SignPainterGuy on October 9th, 2012 8:33 pm

Not to be picky, but you left off the first, most descriptive word in that Med. Sch. diagnosis: MALIGNANT !

Add this to a viewing of the "2016" film for your scary pre-Halloween enjoyment !

  4. SignPainterGuy on October 9th, 2012 8:45 pm

I take it then that at the time the scary pic of Moochelle on stage after the debate showing that , "No mile high club for you BARACK !" facial expression, she had not clipped Zero`s pre / during / post debate high on whatever it was that had him high, or on another planet ! She musta waited till she yanked him off-stage !

Leno must have been right; "The only one who didn`t tune in to the debate was Obama !"

As a side note, I thought the new debate format moderated by Lehrer in the first debate was a good idea; it allowed the candidates to talk longer and stay on topic very well. Lehrer tried unsuccessfully to keep both of them to time constraints, but both swatted him away and continued. I liked that !

  5. SignPainterGuy on October 9th, 2012 8:48 pm

The liberal media tried to tell us who each man wasn`t, but the debate showed clearly who each man IS ! The polls are showing that people like the real Romney; the real Obama, not so much !

  6. Truesoldier__ on October 9th, 2012 8:52 pm

Yes the new format was pretty good. I wish we could see more of it as it really seems to get them off of their prepared remarks and actually have to answer the questions.

I was skeptical of how Lehrer would moderate, but I must say he did a fairly good job.

Good point. The last 4 years have been a pretty scary slasher movie with Obama as the crazed maniac and the American public the teenagers out in the woods.

  8. SignPainterGuy on October 9th, 2012 8:57 pm

I think so too. Jim acted on instinct to keep them on time, but quickly realized it got him nowhere, as per his explanation in interviews afterwards and in reaction to his critics.

Makes you wonder what the results will be like after the Ryan/Biden debate Thursday night?

  10. ChapBix on October 9th, 2012 9:51 pm

I'm thinking that Biden will throw the usual oral grenades at Ryan which will be swatted back at him with facts he won't be able to refute. Anything of any substance (ie. Obama's track record circa 2009-2012) works against Obama/Biden.

I suspect Mrs. Biden will be much prettier standing with Joe in the post debate pics on stage. She will be less surprised that Joe lost and be far less visibly angry than Moochelle was.

I expect the media to do a similar act of incredulity that Joe could have been trounced so handily by the likes of Ryan, but they will have a harder time holding straight faces.

“…the President left the stage feeling that he had won the debate.”

Let’s see, the definition of “debate” is what, again?

    Hard to believe?
    Boy, Howdy!

But, for a total zero, empty suit, empty oval office desk, someone who thinks he can play real golf with only as many clubs as can be carried by one hand and a head that big, maybe not.

However, it’s clear mama new otherwise

Good point. The sideways stink-eye/sneer was very unscripted. Meanchelle lent the opportunity for those not turned off by the *pResident's* 'performance' to be totally turned off by HER.

    I mean just in case?

  14. Marshall_Will on October 10th, 2012 1:02 am

Makes me very pleased SNL did the skit on the MSNBC post-debate total meltdown featuring none other than "Chris Matthews".

"Obama forgot the first rule of 'debate'. Shout and interrupt your opponent any time you're losing ground! Oh, and shout loudly and interrupt your opponent every chance you get!? Just like I shout down opposition on my SHOW!?"

It takes away 80% of the Left's 'arsenal'.

  15. Marshall_Will on October 10th, 2012 1:09 am

Results? What would they LIKE them to be? I was shocked to see Newsweek's blatant and shameless cover story by MM's fave journo-tool, water carrier and now totally INSANE writer, Andrew Sullivan:

    "In Newsweek Magazine
President Obama: The Democrats' Ronald Reagan
    Sep 24, 2012 1:00 AM EDT
With his first term behind him, Obama is poised to be as significant a president as Reagan—tackling the deficit, spearheading immigration reform, and jolting the GOP back to sanity."

Of the over 2,000 outraged comments you didn't have to delve far to see he's lost what little 'credibility' that may have remained. If he were a relative, you'd be clamoring for an intervention. Totally out of control.

  16. SignPainterGuy on October 10th, 2012 2:09 am

"….just in case?" Heh, by the look on Meanchelle`s face, if Barry thought he won the debate, he was about to be corrected !

I would NOT want to be BHO anytime, but especially in the evening after that photo was taken !

  17. jeffythequick on October 10th, 2012 7:07 am

May I wish pResident Obama more victories like he had las week.

  18. backwoodsconsr on October 10th, 2012 11:23 am

Apparently Obama favors Pyrrhic victories. The way he does battle with the economy is further evidence.

  19. Truesoldier__ on October 10th, 2012 12:55 pm

Not to mention, you keep hearing how Biden has the ability to connect with the common person out there. They keep repeating that over and over again as if that is what is going to win the debate. If they are basing it only on Charisma and likeability factor they are in for a big shock.

Everyone seems to know that Ryan is quite a bit smarter than Biden and no one expects any gaffes from Ryan either. The difference is Ryan has proved that he not only has the smarts, but the charisma as well. He wins nearly 70% of the vote in a very moderate district (that district has voted for the Dem in every Presidential election since Mondale). Not to mention, out of the 4 candidates in the race Ryan has the highest likability and approval rating of them all.

BO is becoming too expensive even for the left ! They are showing signs of being fed up with him !

  21. SignPainterGuy on October 10th, 2012 2:17 pm

The new theory of why the left is saying out loud that BO lost the first debate is his own fault, he was off his game, etc., rather than admit any more that Romney actually did very, very well !

    How`s that a winning shtradgedy ?

Also fascinating that Shrillary, Jay and Joe have not done any interviews in weeks !

  22. backwoodsconsr on October 10th, 2012 2:24 pm

Maybe they finally figured out that it's better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Either that or they're quietly making arrangements to invite the terrorists for a beer summit and they're not ready to announce it yet.
