If I were black or Hispanic and my kids were in Florida schools I’d find this just a tad offensive:

The Florida State Board of Education passed a plan that sets goals for students in math and reading based upon their race.

On Tuesday, the board passed a revised strategic plan that says that by 2018, it wants 90 percent of Asian students, 88 percent of white students, 81 percent of Hispanics and 74 percent of black students to be reading at or above grade level. For math, the goals are 92 percent of Asian kids to be proficient, whites at 86 percent, Hispanics at 80 percent and blacks at 74 percent. It also measures by other groupings, such as poverty and disabilities, reported the Palm Beach Post.

What are the odds though that if you were to hold a bake sale in Florida similar to this one the Board of Education there would find it terribly offensive?

    This is so much like California`s attempt to allow the speaking of Ebonics, black street slang and slur, as acceptable in schools.

    I was so encouraged to hear famous blacks speaking out against it, incl. Bill Cosby, who said it amounted to admitting that blacks are too dumb and lazy to speak understandable English.

    What`s happening in FL has been happening in universities and grade schools for a while, it`s just finally being done without the veil / pretense of secrecy.

    Apparently they believe Asians are the smartest of all. I guess they must have heard about Michelle Malkin.

    SOMETIMES REALITY BITES!

    =================================

    I would think that a state board of education would be able to express themselves a bit better. As a multicultural/generational nation we’ve seen this from its beginning.

    It’s not the RACE, it’s the CULTURE and I’m not sure there’s any need to be offended. Think about what is the prized in each culture and sub culture. What are the awards and honors given out for, what are the rewards offered and received?

    Asian’s outperform whites in many areas and vice versa as seen by cultural tenacity, a couple of military wars and numerous technology wars. Is anyone offended because most of our office equipment is made and/or developed in Asia? What about what’s in our garages, and our living rooms for leisure time.

    I have spent a lot of time in other cultures and countries and it takes effort to change to the point of getting over the culture shock, belonging and feeling comfortable. Ego and false “pride” cannot be allowed to enter in to it.

    Kids are willing to change but, without the parents help it’s pretty much impossible, especially when the parents are sticklers, can’t or won’t learn the language and are forcing the kids to hold on to the old cultural traditions because “we don’t want to change” or just won’t let go of bitterness and anger due to perceived or actual injustices to previous generations and continue to live the self-perpetuating myopic cultural existence.

    And it won’t happen in six years.

    There is no need to have a color coded diploma. Even if you are black or white you are still a human being that has knowledge to pass their Board exam.
