The Pentagon’s budget is getting cut, but that hasn’t hindered the Obama administration’s ability to wage class warfare:

With lawmakers scheduled to return to work on Monday to begin intense discussions before a looming fiscal deadline, Mr. Obama’s aides are trying to harness the passions that returned him to the White House, hoping to pressure Republicans in Congress to accept tax increases on the wealthy. The president’s strategists are turning first to the millions of e-mail addresses assembled by the campaign and the White House.

Already, supporters are being asked to record YouTube videos of themselves talking about the importance of raising taxes on the rich. Aides said those videos would be shared on Facebook and Twitter and would be forwarded to centrist Democrats, as well as to mainstream Republicans, who they hope will break with their Tea Party colleagues.

Obama’s re-election is a clear signal that enough Americans who have been convinced that they are better off if somebody else is made to pay higher taxes. To me this is like being stuck in quicksand and recording a video about how much better off you’ll be if somebody else is pushed in with you. Misery loves company, and the people who capitalize on misery love idiots.

Here's my entry idea. Send a video telling Warren Buffett and any other "rich" person that wants to pay higher taxes to put up or shut up by sending a check to the IRS.

  2. jeffythequick on November 28th, 2012 1:40 pm

Gee, if I were a representative, I'd look at a bunch of Democrats explaining how they'd be better off if someone else paid more and I'd say, "look! more people that won't vote for me disagree with me!"

And then vote to cut spending. Severely.

And then I'd hope for the Laurie Dhue look alikes (heck, Laurie could Dhue it herself…) and come into my office and protest nekkid.

Of course the GOP is missing a great opportunity here. They could play the media and the Dem's if they only had a combination of smarts and backbone to do it. Do a bit of research and find quotes from prominent Dem's and MSM news anchors saying the Bush tax cuts are only for the rich from when the tax cuts were first being debated in the Bush years. Then go on the Sunday shows and what not claiming that you are willing to allow the tax rates on the rich to go up.

Once on the air point out that the media and the Dem's claimed that all the Bush era tax cuts were for the rich, so by letting them expire you would essentially be allowing tax rates on the rich to increase. When the anchors or Dem's sharing the stage try to claim that it would also raise taxes on the middle class, pull out the quotes from the original debate. Read them on the air and say, "So which is it? Were you lying to the American people when the tax cuts were passed or are you lying to them now? Either way, why should the American people believe anything you have to say knowing that you either lied to them in the past about the tax cuts or you are lying to them now?"

  5. Truesoldier__ on November 28th, 2012 1:53 pm

No kidding. Of course they want to pull on Boehner's heart strings and get him all weepy knowing that is all it will take to get him to cave.

  6. SignPainterGuy on November 28th, 2012 2:11 pm

From all indications, the left does not care, even reveres, that the left lies !

That the Rs lack the backbone to do what you wisely suggest, goes without saying !

  7. Marshall_Will on November 28th, 2012 2:18 pm

Well stated. It's more in play than ever given the definition of "Rich Fat Cats" after (4) years of Obama now includes anyone with a job!

Anyone with a full TIME job anyway? I think we should run with that. Dim's approach on this is every bit as wag-the-dog as their pathetic "Obama Cares" fetal position vid submissions. No thanks. Again.

  8. Truesoldier__ on November 28th, 2012 2:44 pm

So right. Just look at the history of income taxes in general. The income tax was originally billed as a temporary tax on only the rich. Of course that was just to get the ball rolling. If they were to go with the proposal to allow that taxes to expire on only the upper income earners you would be looking at redcuing the the annual deficeit by about $82 billion a year (and that is assuming the "rich" continue to pay and not move thier money to other tax shelters to avoid the tax increase). That means instead of having a $1 trillion deficeit the US would have a $918 billion deficeit which amounts to nothing. At that point Obama and the Dem's would claim that we have to raise taxes on more people, say those who make $100k or more a year. Rinse and repeat until you have everyone from the Middle income brackets and above paying mroe in taxes while the Dem's cherished constiuentcy (i.e. the poor) still pay nothing.

This cartoon is relevant in a sense missed by most; that`s a 12 volt car battery Obozo is attempting to jump start a 24 volt truck system. It just isn`t up to the task, just like the pRes. Road Service !

  10. Truesoldier__ on November 28th, 2012 3:15 pm

Good catch. I was thinking it was a Chevy Volt that had a low charge he was trying to jumpstart the truck with.

We`ve come to realize that Barry is gonna use the wrong tool for the job, be it people in positions of authority or policies he claims will help create better conditions. MM posted today about misguided regs to protect one species of owls is actually bringing about their demise ! That trend extends WAAAAY back in gov. and leftist ideology !

Post-election I've seen numerous Dim-observations the "fiscal cliff" is purely a rightwinger/paranoid construct. There really IS no sense of urgency and we have 'time' to make the necessary adjustments. ( Yeah, seriously )

Not knowing just how comfortable they are to flirting w/ Greece? You can plainly see these people just don't get it. Effective 1 Jan. most W-2 Americans will NOT have enough withholding from their paychecks. And since they're paying $4-$5 gas and 30% food increases, they won't have the scratch to cover their [new] tax bills either!

  13. SignPainterGuy on November 28th, 2012 3:39 pm

I got my first i`net connection in the 2nd week of `09 and I remember people were saying even then that taxing us into oblivion was the left`s / Obama`s plan ! It had been the subject of rightwing talkers long before that !

  14. Truesoldier__ on November 28th, 2012 3:44 pm

Well what better way to enslave the people to the government. Raise the cost of living to the point that everyone needs government assistance just to survive and then use that dependency to take away the freedoms that personal wealth provides us.

  15. Marshall_Will on November 28th, 2012 4:25 pm

And…AND if it weren't for the BANKS sitting on so much underwater collateral in the form of American's HOMES, they'd be accelerating the process even FASTER.

"As Obama took office, Summers would note how the Brady plan had succeeded where the Baker plan failed. But although the new Obama administration had hundreds of billions of dollars in unspent financial bailout money available to use,*** it decided against any significant program to reduce the debt of underwater homeowners***

“No one was in doubt that debt overhangs were an important problem,” Summers said recently at a conference. But despite exploring many proposals, the administration did not see a plan that did not have the potential to cause “effects worse than the cure,” he said, such as cratering the financial system by forcing banks to absorb huge losses."

  16. Truesoldier__ on November 28th, 2012 4:54 pm

    “effects worse than the cure,”

Since when has that ever stopped the political elites from meddling in the private sector (or private lives for that matter)?

That one statement alone should be setting off warning bells in peoples minds, but alas the electorate has surely become placated with the promises of an ever growing list of freebies at the expense of some other group of people.

  17. Marshall_Will on November 28th, 2012 5:15 pm

Right, elitists were so busy Picking Winners & Losers but suddenly had to draw the line at considering anything that might be beneficial to Americans? Got it.

And for all their posturing over "just what a complex issue this was", it's all misdirection. We beat ourselves up over this as bubble bloggers for years. In the end we concluded it's every BIT as simple as it looks on the surface.

There's no magical chart or algorithms to "pore over" here! Like Ann Barnhart said when Corzine made off w/ billions. "It's theft, plain and simple".

  18. Dexter_Alarius on November 28th, 2012 5:29 pm

Way cool! You know… all they're shooting for here is emotional drivel they can edit into an equally incoherent 'message' to -obscure- ( not clarify ) the debate.

This is, in its purest form, spiking the ball! I Won! AGAIN! And I'll continue to Lead From Behind by ginning up 'support' from the most unhinged among us. So there!

  20. Truesoldier__ on November 28th, 2012 7:13 pm

No kidding. I am sure they can get some union shop workers to make some videos that wont need much editing. I would not be surprised if they provided the script for them as well.

As MM puts it, Kabuki Theatre.

What's sad here, and I believe I'm seeing in this in SPADES w/ my 60's era neighbor? Just like Depression era Dem's that voted Dim since their dad got a WPA job…

The boomers now realize ( the movement's not about 'them' any more? ) For them, turnabout was only fair play so if Booosh got (8) years "to screw this country up!"? In their minds this was an eight year deal. So Bammie had their vote cold! Locked in.

Now they're waking up to the fact they ( like their D-era parents ) have totally been taken to the cleaners! But it's too late. Besides showing vidclips of aging, drug addled former hippies would only serve to scare off the fresh faced new OWS core constituency. But thanks for sending them in!

I think the little car should have been the economy. And the tax hikes should be the giant tractor. They try to pull off big taxes from a small economy. And that is what is happening in this world as of now.

There is no doubt that taxing on rich is always good for the economy. Higher taxes on the wealthy also allow for lower taxes on the middle. As lowering the tax burden for the middle potentially restoring enough middle class purchasing power to keep the economy going.
