Anybody who ever had a child in sports has seen this kind of behavior. What is truly amazing, is that most of the time, I have seen parents do nothing—nothing if they saw their kid being abused, because they don’t want to embarrass their child. Not me. I never put up with bullies of any age.

But…because some smart person filmed this guy and put him on Youtube, he got fired. What’s is even more absurd, is the salary this guy was making. Ridiculous. He has come out and apologized, and seemed sincere, and no doubt will be back at some university coaching again in the near future… but geez. If he does this to his players, can you even imagine what his kids go through?

(CNN) — Rutgers University will pay former basketball coach Mike Rice — fired this week over a video that showed him shoving and berating players — a $100,000 bonus for “longevity” as called for in his contract, Rutgers athletic department spokesman Jason Baum said Thursday. His 2012 salary was $655,470.55, including $300,000 in base pay, according to News 12 New Jersey, which cited public records.

Yikes… that's how my wife treats me when I forget to close the lid on the toilet seat, and that behavior has NO PLACE IN SPORTS! It should be confined to the bathroom or semi-immediate surroundings (including the kitchen, den and garage) where it belongs.

He's in the wrong sport. He should be trying that with guys who carry baseball bats.

I came from the old school. I was spanked as a child. I am in agreement with Eric Bolling and Rush. We have created a new generation of wussie boys/men. Good grief – they are banning playground games like dodge ball all for political correctness. I have 3 daughters who all played softball under two different coaches who were both brash, nasty and equal opportunity a$$holes. But he took them to championship game after championship game and I never ever heard one word out of their mouths about them being bullies. They all cherish the years they played and remain in touch with both coaches and former players. It was a good lesson in sportsmanship, team building and learning how to get your a$$ chewed when screwing up. Character builders in my eyes!!!

Chewing out is one thing. Throwing stuff at people's heads and pushing them around is another. This guy went over the line.

Speaking of paddlings, when I was young and up to 10th grade, my neighbor, and the hi sch varsity football coach and biology teacher was an ex WWII Army Sgt., a cusser of the blue streak. His Son, 3 yrs older, caught it bad some times. I was assigned Study Hall in his class once; it was surprisingly quiet in there. Got lots of studying done except one day. A boy made a mess and then smarted off, so Coach had him bend over his desk and a lifting-off-the-floor paddling commenced. Coach told him, I gave it to you with my left hand, `cause I might hurt you with my right. Few people knew he was really left handed.

My Daughter had a female volleyball coach who was hard on them. They played well, but they didn`t like her. Daughter tried to quit. I made her tell me why and when she finally told me, I managed to get her back to practice only minutes before she would have been dropped from the team and likely would have had trouble getting on the other two sports teams she liked, basketball and softball.

I called the coach over and told her what Daughter had said, that she was hard on them, that was fine, but she also cussed them. The embarrassed, caught look on her face was priceless. I told Coach, don`t let me hear of it ever again or I`ll have your job. You will not cuss my Daughter. This is a school and there is no place for that here ! She must`a listened.

"His 2012 salary was $655,470.55, including $300,000 in base pay,"

Always suspected inflated athletic dept. head/coach pay was fluffed and inflated to run cover for the rest of the faculty. "Here we have some JOCK w/ a phys. ed major making $____ and all *I'M* asking for ( w/ my PHD in ___ ) is $___!?"

Let the escalation begin! Then the tired arguments over televising cable rights and sports revenue and… we're right back where we started. Namely more escalation. Like Bill Gates and Bobby Knight, those legendary tantrum throwers set horrible precedence.

To liberals, however, football bats make perfect sense. So do screen doors on submarines.
