Somewhere in offices in L.A. sits a bunch of California educators who actually believe they just did something to make people safer:
The Los Angeles Community College District’s nine campuses will be gun-free zones, according to a resolution passed this week by the Board of Trustees that bans weapons in almost all circumstances.
“It is our responsibility to provide a safe environment for our students, allowing them to feel secure and able to totally focus on their academic goals,” said board Vice President Scott Svonkin, who sponsored the resolution. “They must never be fearful about setting foot on one of our campuses.”
Here’s where liberals are amazingly clueless. They believe that putting up a sign that says “no guns allowed” would actually stop people like this:
The move follows a June shooting rampage at and around Santa Monica College in which five people died.
The suspected gunman, John Zawahri, 23, is believed to have killed his father and older brother at their Yorkshire Avenue home before setting the house on fire. He then carjacked a motorist and forced her at gunpoint to drive him to Santa Monica College, along the way firing at several vehicles and killing a campus groundskeeper and his daughter.
After entering the campus, Zawahri shot and killed another woman before he was fatally wounded by police in the school library.
Now that people like that maniac will be stopped in their tracks by the “no guns allowed” sign, students can feel completely safe.
At least one-third of mass shootings since 2009 have taken place in gun free zones. How can that be? Aren’t the killers reading the signs?

This from the same kinds of planning geniuses who are now in charge of health care:
A $3.5-million solar panel installation at the airport in Manchester, New Hampshire — paid for with a federal grant — is under wraps as engineers debate how to deal with the glare that has bothered air traffic controllers, the New Hampshire Union Leader reported on Thursday.
According to the newspaper, engineers have suggested that the south-facing panels on top of the airport parking garage be turned to the east, even though that would reduce their energy output.
Here’s what the controllers were looking at:
Wouldn’t it be the perfect “worlds collide” moment if an air traffic controller was blinded by that when Gore Force One was on approach?
Russia just granted asylum to somebody the U.S. government wants to charge with espionage, and according to Obama it’s only because they don’t understand that the Cold War mentality is extinct:
President Obama told The Tonight Show’s Jay Leno that he was frustrated by Russia’s decision to grant Edward Snowden asylum but said the two countries must work together.
“I was disappointed,” he said of Russia’s decision. “Even though we don’t have an extradition treaty with them, traditionally we have tried to respect if there’s a law breaker or alleged law breaker in their country, we evaluate it, and we try to work with them.”
Despite this, Obama confirmed he would attend the G-20 summit in St. Petersburg in September.
“There are times when they slip back into Cold War thinking and Cold War mentality,” Obama said on air Tuesday evening. “What I continually say to them and to President Putin, that’s the past.”
Obama’s trying to convince Putin that the Cold War is over just like he’s trying to get Americans to believe al Qaeda has been decimated, his administration had nothing to do with the IRS targeting conservative groups and that Obamacare won’t be a train wreck.
Obama, unhappy with Russia over Snowden and missile defense disagreements, just cancelled a summit meeting with Putin. There are obviously times when Obama also slips back into the Cold War mentality.
President Obama’s birthday was Sunday, and to coincide with that Organizing for Action scheduled Obamacare meetings around the country. Many lefty living rooms turned into mini Jonestowns:
“Mmm mmm mmm”:
More here. The obedience collars are still working after all these years.
Even Mao might tell these people to cool it a little.
Have you ever baked a cake for a politician and sang “happy birthday” in your house? For example, I liked Reagan a lot but never let that turn into some kind of twisted Branch Davidian-style worship session. Of course, conservatism isn’t about idolizing a central political figure — quite the opposite. But people who have been conditioned to be dependent on diaper changings feel compelled to make periodic offerings to the Huggies god.
If Detroit’s financial situation seems hopeless, it’s actually nothing compared to what the federal government has gotten us into.

Lefties are salivating over the prospect of a bill with a fittingly commie-sounding name: The “Inclusive Prosperity Act.” The bill would impose a tax on the trading of stocks, bonds and derivatives and is really, incredibly, horribly stupid. Which is why people like Rep. Keith Ellison support it as a way of funneling more money to the government:
“People like, George Soros, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Paul Krugman, Joe Stiglitz, Jeffrey Sax, Dean Baker, Robert Poland, Larry Summers have said they all support a transaction tax,” Ellison said.
“The bottom line is we’re not broke, there’s plenty of money, it’s just the government doesn’t have it,” Ellison continued, “The government has a right, the government and the people of the United States have a right to run the programs of the United States. Health, welfare, housing – all these things.”
Well, if Krugman supports it, it’s definitely a bad idea.
Capitalist-socialist hypocrites like Soros pitch this idea like it’s a “one percent” thing, but over half of Americans have money in the stock market. Just what we need, another tax on working America just because Keith Ellison and the rest of the tax and spenders need more and more to satisfy their crack-addict style addictions.
It’s just a matter of time before people like Ellison are opening calling for the government to raid savings accounts (he’ll refer to it as “involuntary FDIC premium payments” or something like that).
Usually when people butcher the Anthem the cringe-worthy parts are the high notes. This flips it around and makes the listener wince on the low notes. I caught some Cher in this performance, with a bit of Michael McDonald and just a hint of Roseanne Barr:
She must be the daughter of a track official or something.
I’ll say this for her — she still did about ten times better than I would have. Which still isn’t necessarily a compliment.
“These aren’t the Benghazi survivors you’re looking for…”
What we’ve learned along the way — from day one’s “spontaneous attack brought about by anger over a video” to the admission of a planned attack but “there wasn’t anything we could do about it because we had no personnel nearby,” to where the story has evolved today, which is there were dozens of members of the CIA in Benghazi that night — means there’s very little that would surprise me at this point.
With that in mind, check out what Rep. Gowdy said recently:
The Obama administration is “changing names” of the Benghazi survivors and “creating aliases” to keep them hidden from congressional investigators and the American people, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) told Greta Van Susteren on Thursday night. He also said the administration is “dispersing them around the country” to keep them out of sight.
Gowdy’s stunning claims were overshadowed by CNN’s bombshell report that revealed there were “dozens” of CIA operatives on the ground in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012, the night of the deadly attack that killed four Americans. Meanwhile, the CIA is taking “unprecedented” to keep whatever it was doing in Benghazi a secret, according to the report.
The only thing we know for sure is that whatever was happening that night and the following day, President Obama felt that fundraisers took priority.

I guess lefty feminists don’t really think occasional wanker tweets from Weiner or unsolicited back rubs from creepy Filner are all that offensive.
From the Daily Caller:
The National Organization for Women released their “gallery of worse offenders when it comes to women’s rights” in an email to supporters Thursday.
All the offenders, according to NOW’s list, are Republicans. Noticeably absent from the gallery, however, are San Diego Democratic Mayor Bob Filner and New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner.
Eight women have accused Filner of sexual harassment, including inappropriate touching. Weiner recently admitted to continuing to engage in sexting even after resigning from Congress in 2011 for similar activities.
Filner has refused to resign and Weiner says he is staying in the race for mayor.
NOW’s worst women’s rights offenders gallery focuses solely on pro-life Republican men. “Let’s keep our reproductive rights in our hands, not in the hands of these men!” NOW introduces the gallery.
Ironic, in a sad way, that NOW’s “worst women’s rights offenders” list consists only of people opposed to tossing hundreds of thousand of females per year into trash cans.
Another festival of double standards at Wednesday’s press conference with Obama’s spokesliar Jay Carney:
If a reporter would have told Carney that a Republican was refusing to pay for Sandra Fluke’s birth control pills, the response would have been totally different.
