Our selfless president has given the First Lady a birthday present — the gift of leaving her behind in Hawaii:

President Barack Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha left their vacation in Hawaii on Saturday, but left First Lady Michelle Obama behind on the islands, according to news agency reports. The president reportedly let his wife stay on in Hawaii with friends as a “birthday present.” Michelle Obama will turn 50 years old on Jan. 17.

What a nice gift, though I’m not sure which one the present is really for.

And of course, Barack’s “gift” to Michelle is at least partly paid for by taxpayers:

It is a birthday present whose costs, in separate travel and security expenses, are likely to be borne, in part, by taxpayers. On a previous occasion, when Mrs. Obama left for a Hawaii vacation in advance of her husband, the additional cost to the Treasury was estimated to be at least $63,000, and potentially upwards of $100,000.

Remember these classics?

Michelle Obama: “…someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more.”

Barack Obama: “Shared sacrifice.”

President Obama’s present might have been intended for his wife, but both of them have given the country the gift of laughter through tears.

Part of Obama's and the Democrats' war on income inequality, no doubt.

This just ain't right. Outrageous. Fearfully funky.

Why are we making Obonehead return without his bountiful bride?!? Give the kid a break and let him sit on the beach with b-b-big-bunns 'til, ohhhhh, say Jan 2017!! Just a thot.

    Lol, works for me.

Like any gov. employee, I'm pretty sure MO has every last day/date/3-day weekend booked WELL in advance. Probably had the whole 2nd TERM penciled in! After all, they had a deal!

More and more ( as Iraq reverts to the Dark Ages ) my anger is focused toward O'Drama's handlers, namely Soros, and less and less at Him directly. The man genuinely is clueless and seems sincerely surprised when the magical thinking doesn't pan out.

Increasingly it's dawning that installing this bozo into office wasn't just part of the larger, obvious agenda to advance prog designs, it was also to irreversibly damage and demean The Office itself. At some point in the not to distant future the narrative WILL shift toward censuring future pResident's authority in favor of a 'chamber' or other central party decision making body.

In the end, Obama was disposable too. So is his 'legacy'. In the wake of Debacle By Design it will posed to voters "if 'this' is really what we want?"

Sounds about right to me. I am beginning to believe that Dear leader could care less about a legacy and more about the perks he and his brood have enjoyed while in the WH.

So with the cost of his latest trip (and now this extension) how much sooner will treasury hit the debt ceiling again? Of course it really doesn't matter as Congress will just raise it, I am just curious as to how much sooner we, as a nation, will go further into debt.

Doug, Regarding your tweet pic of the -5 (I feel your pain it is warmer today here at -12 as opposed to the -24 yesterday and those are the temps without wind chill factored in), I saw that the power grids across the nation (which is now at 90% of the country showing freezing or below freezing temps) are struggling to keep up with the power needs for heating homes. I wonder how many libs are still glad that Dear leader's EPA Regs have caused a number of coal fired electric plants to shut down.
