Apparently President Obama realizes there isn’t enough time left in his final term to be able to trade away the rest of the detainees at the U.S. detention center in Guantanamo Bay, but he’s determined to shut it down even if his administration has to put the prisoners in our backyards:

A team of Pentagon officials began scouting sites in Colorado on Tuesday as potential alternatives to hold prisoners from Guantanamo Bay as part of the long-stalled effort to close the controversial detention center on the U.S. base in Cuba.

The team planned to assess facilities at the Federal Correctional Complex in Florence and the state penitentiary in Canon City as alternatives for a “limited” number of detainees from Guantanamo, said Navy Cmdr. Gary Ross, a Pentagon spokesman.

They are looking at what changes would be needed to the facilities in Colorado to detain the prisoners and to hold proceedings for those facing trial by military commission, Ross said.

The Pentagon team also has also surveyed the Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and the Naval Consolidated Brig in Charleston, South Carolina.

Nowhere near the Beltway is under consideration? Hey, they’re not stupid. Obama, Biden and Kerry also aren’t insisting on either Chicago, Wilmington or Nantucket as possible locations? Real surprising. Maybe the detainees should be given jobs giving tours of the “He Ended the War in Afghanistan More Than Once” wing of Obama’s presidential library after it opens.

    "wing of Obama's presidential library"

Holy satire of satires! Unlike the empty headed ( and rather sick ) fantasies of HBO "True Blood" series director Alan Ball, where vampires turn a Ted Cruz fundraiser at the Bush library into a bloodbath all-out-attack on conservatives? And keep it classy lines like: "Oh my god, I'm a Republic*nt!"

Gitmo detainees come tour guides foam at the mouth to make this a reality! Nantucket would be my choice of setting. Think of all the really cool implements the guys in landscape maint. would find in the too shed?

Fighting sick fantasies with sick FANTASIES I always say…

I hear Martha's Vineyard is nice this time of years.

Seriously though, I think the truth behind Obama wanting to shut down GITMO has far less to do with his leftist base than it has to do with wanting to give GITMO over to Fidel. That is what I am thinking the overall goal is, give it back to Cuba as a way to say were sorry for being a "colonialist power". Not to mention the deal would probably allow Obama to send those he deem undesirables (i.e. Conservatives) to GITMO under new management.

Excellent point and probably closer to the truth than any of us realizes.

Cuba has never had to worry about projecting any overt military force. It's always has the USSR to do THAT ) focusing it's, energies and resources on the domestic suppression of his own people. What we like to call, positive synergy. It's been a win-win.

But NOW, in their ( hastily 'crafted' ) NWO, they'll need a base of operations to spread communism to Greater South America! And what's w/ that America shingle anyway!? We'll need to work on that…

O/T…Don't know if you all saw it but it appears that the director of the CIA was using a personal email account and it may have been hacked. If it is legit, the hacker (purported to be a high school kid) got a list of CIA contacts and other high ranking officials names and contact information.

Makes you wonder how this will all play out seeing that Obama on down have been covering for Hillary's private server (which I guarantee you had just as damaging of info on it as the CIA directors personal email appears to have had).

Adak, Alaska would be a great place to locate Gitmo. There are many vacant buildings, even a bowling alley and a wonderful climate that would hasten trials.
