I’ve never heard a major political speech of this scope that had the term “herding goats” in it… especially by the third paragraph.

As I expected, there were a few “blame America” euro-suckups. Here’s just one toward the end of the speech:

I know my country has not perfected itself. At times, we’ve struggled to keep the promise of liberty and equality for all of our people. We’ve made our share of mistakes, and there are times when our actions around the world have not lived up to our best intentions.

Mistakes? Like Reagan precipitating the fall of the Berlin wall, crumbling the Soviet Union, or the U.S. saving Europe’s tea-sipping, cheese-eating asses — twice — from the very nation in which Obama was speaking?

The Berlin crowd seemed to love it, so with any luck, Obama will be elected president… of Germany.

Update: A Mississippi death row inmate who was convicted of beating a man to death with a claw hammer used his final statement before he was executed last night to… endorse Barack Obama.

“Claw hammer killers for Obama!” Ah, change.

To those who believe that a philosopher named Jesus once walked the earth and was a great moral teacher, but who nevertheless wasn’t the Son of God, C.S. Lewis proposed a trilemma called “Lord, liar or lunatic.”

The challenge was simply this: If Jesus was not the son of God, then taking into account the claims he made about his divinity would mean that he was either insane, lying, or a little of both — thereby negating the “great moral teacher” claims (forget for a moment that Democrats these days believe that an insane liar can still nevertheless be considered a “great moral teacher”).

Since the adulation of Barack Obama has nearly reached messianic levels among **Democrats and the mainstream media (**”Today’s redundancy is brought to you by Goodyear Tires — get there!“), I thought of the Lord, liar or lunatic challenge after I saw the short video of Barack Obama in Israel saying the following:

Now, in terms of knowing my commitments, you don’t have to just look at my words, you can look at my deeds. Just this past week, we passed out of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, which is my committee, a bill to call for divestment from Iran, as a way of ratcheting up the pressure to ensure that they don’t obtain a nuclear weapon.

As John at Powerline pointed out, Obama is not a member of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. Three options: 1) Obama thinks he’s a member of that committee, 2) he just made it up to take credit for something he didn’t do, or 3) as The Way, The Truth and The Light, he naturally holds dominion over all committees.

Lord, liar or lunatic? At least I’ve managed to eliminate the first option as a possibility. It’s a good thing for Obama that Democrats don’t let little things like facts cloud their lack of judgement.

Here’s an eleven second video of Obama either not knowing which committees he’s on, or lying so he can take credit for something he had no hand in doing. I think I know which it is:

Update: Pam Meister has written “Obama’s Prayer.” Check it out — it’s hilarious and sad at the same time, but “laughter through beers” is one of my favorite emotions.

Update II: Can there possibly be any more room under Obama’s bus? His father’s under there now.

As hundreds of mainstream media journalists and talking heads trail Barack Obama as he plays make-believe president overseas, John McCain has been attempting to draw attention to his lonely campaign.

Some have suggested that McCain announce his choice for Vice President this week to attempt to overshadow Obama, but it looks like McCain is getting a little press coverage without announcing his Veep choice — very little press coverage.

According to the Manchester Union Leader, while in New Hampshire, McCain managed to get one reporter to cover him:

In Manchester last night, there was just one reporter and one photographer waiting for McCain as his plane — a white, blue and gold Boeing 737-400 emblazoned with his campaign slogan, “Reform, Prosperity, Peace” — touched down on the Wiggins Airways tarmac.

If Senator McCain wants to cease being deluged by a lack of attention, he’ll need to do something Obama-esque to woo reporters to New Hampshire, such as walk across Lake Winnipesaukee.

“Uh, that reporter’s not here to see you, Senator… Weird Al Yankovic is on the plane.”

For months we knew that, given the two finalists for the Democrat’s presidential nomination, members of that party had a heart-wrenching decision to make: “Am I racist, or sexist?”

Katie Couric isn’t happy with the choice Democrats made, and the fact that she and Hillary Clinton are filthy rich and are now filling roles in careers once completely dominated by men is evidence of sexism run amok. Um, What?

Read it again: Couric said she and Hillary Clinton are victims of sexism.

If not being elected president means you’re the victim of sexism, then I’ve been victimized as well.

Couric makes $15 million a year (which I believe is about $10,000 per viewer) and is bitching. You can’t help but wonder what it would take to make this chick happy.

And the MSM wonders why they’re accused of being “out of touch” with America?

Radio talk show host Michael Savage has made some people mad again.

The previous sentence could be written almost every day, but since the recent controversy hits close to home I thought I’d throw in my two cents.

On a recent broadcast, Savage said the following things about autism:

“Now you want me to tell you my opinion on autism since I’m not talking about autism … a fraud, a racket,” Michael Savage said last week on his radio show, “The Savage Nation.”

The shock jock went on to say, “What do you mean they scream and they’re silent? They don’t have a father around to tell them don’t act like a moron, you’ll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up! Act like a man! Don’t sit there crying and screaming, idiot.’”

Autism groups and many whose lives have been affected by autism in some way are calling for Savage to be fired.

Are we a thin-skinned society or what? Sure, what Savage said about autism is stupid and medically uneducated. I can only say this because my wife and I have some experience in this area.

My 13-year-old son was diagnosed years ago with autism — albeit one of the milder forms. Though I can only speak from personal experience, Savage’s description of people with autism sounds like a man who has seen the airport scene in “Rain Man” one too many times and has been so jaded by the government-sponsored fragmentation of the American family that he assumes kids only have these kinds of problems because they don’t have a father around to keep them in line.

Though this can certainly be true, we can’t paint everything with the same brush, as tempting as that can be. Most of the families I met who have autistic children do have a father in the home, by the way.

Savage later tried to explain himself: “My comments about autism were meant to boldly awaken parents and children to the medical community’s attempt to label too many children or adults as ‘autistic.’”

Again, my family’s personal experience says otherwise. My son was tested extensively, and once the diagnosis was made, we weren’t “sold” anything, weren’t prescribed anything, and were only given some advice on how to help our son adapt socially so he can be competitive in the job market someday and be self-sufficient once he’s out there in the real world.

Believe me, as an observer and commentator on government matters, nobody is on the lookout for a “racket” or a “scam” more than I am.

Somehow Savage lumped autism in with the “Attention Deficit Disorder” problem, and the debate over passing out Ritalin to kids like Tic Tacs is a good idea. The two are completely separate disorders, and lumping them together is like blaming Savage for something that Rush Limbaugh said just because they both happen to be talk radio hosts.

Savage can be a blowhard, sure. I’ve heard Savage refer to Rush Limbaugh as a “phony.” Keep in mind this is an accusation coming from a person who uses a pseudonym — his real last name being “Weiner.” But I fully understand that “The Weiner Nation” doesn’t sound very cool when you’re trying to syndicate a radio show, so I can’t blame him for that little bit of business acumen.

Michael Savage should not be fired based on backlash — unless his employers deem him a financial liability due to lost sponsors. This would be a free market based decision. Firing Savage on no other basis other than that he hurt the feelings of Rodney Peete, Jenny McCarthy or even my wife and me isn’t the kind of America I’m teaching my kids to perpetuate.

I only wish people got as upset and demanded the firing of people who actually can make our lives worse — and with more than just words. I wish people got as angry with politicians who say and do dumb, illegal, immoral, unethical, and anti-American things as they do when a friggin’ radio talk show gives his opinion of a medical disorder.

Michael Savage can’t take my property, Michael Savage can’t steal my money and Michael Savage can’t take away my freedoms.

When the day comes when he can do all of the above, then I’ll call for his firing. Until then, I’ll focus on what matters: calling for the firing of people who can do all of those things — and I’ll be doing so side-by-side with my autistic son while “The Savage Nation” can be heard as mere background noise in the big picture.
