Late November of 2004, after Dan Rather was blog-flogged, and, as Dan would say, his career “went down like Rosie O’Donnell backstage at a Lilith Fair concert,” I wrote a column for WorldNetDaily entitled “The CBS Evening Blog.”
The column was about the blog-laden future of network news, predicting a network news attempt to find a way to compete with these bloggers, or “Pajamahideen” as they have been dubbed.
Somebody was listening. This Wednesday, the New York Times ran a column on this very subject, also called “The CBS Evening Blog.” In it they report that CBS News has actually started a blog on their site. Yes indeed, if CBS News is ever exposed as having used phony documents again, they’re going to make sure that they’re the ones to get the scoop.
As I responded to a comment earlier, it’s pretty funny if you think about it– CBS News starting a blog is kind of like Lizzie Borden’s parents opening a hatchet store.
Maybe CBS has finally figured it out. They can now make the story on television, then break the story on the blog. There’s no need to go anywhere else for your news now.
