"Lamont, you big dummy!"

That’s got to be what Democrats are telling their Connecticut Senate candidate behind closed doors as they channel Fred Sanford in a fit of nervousness.

In Connecticut, Joe Lieberman, now running as an Independent after losing the Democrat primary, has built a 17-point lead over Democrat challenger Ned Lamont. The famous “Joe-mentum” has kicked in, and Lamont’s blaming of Lieberman for high gas prices isn’t sticking. Doing this as gas prices were dropping probably wasn’t the best timing.

Party jumping Joe’s living up to the Connecticut state motto: Qui transtulit sustinet — Which means, “He who transplanted still sustains.”

Suffice to say, Lamont’s numbers this close to the election are bound to give Democrat leaders “the big one.”
