Welchers We Can Believe In

Will somebody pay the bill for Obama’s big victory party at Grant Park on election night? The city of Chicago is still clinging to “hope” when it comes to getting paid:

Chicago has yet to recoup the $1.74 million cost of President Obama’s victory celebration in Grant Park — despite a burgeoning $50.5 million budget shortfall that threatens more layoffs and union concessions.

“The Democratic National Committee has not yet paid us,” Peter Scales, a spokesman for the city’s Office of Budget and Management, said Thursday after questions from the Chicago Sun-Times. “We’re reaching out to them this week.”

Democrats are so busy trying to unclench the fists of others these days that they’re forgetting to unclench their own.

Maybe somebody from Chicago’s Office of Budget and Management should show up at one of Obama’s townhall meetings disguised as a homeless person and say he needs almost $2 million to get back on his feet — then maybe some charitable Republican would end up picking up the tab just like how it happened to Henrietta.

Don’t fret, Chicago — I’m sure the $1.74 million is hidden somewhere in the stimulus package. Somehow taxpayers will end up eating the cost in spite of the fact that Oprah probably has this much money in change stuck to her butt after getting up from the couch.

Speaking of Democrat messes, has anybody cleaned up the Washington Mall after Hurricane Latrina blew through and the new stewards of the environment left it trashed?
