Harry Reid Opposes Ground Zero Mosque Even Though it Has No Muslim Dialect

Oh Harry, President Obamosque came out and campaigned for you and everything — and this is how you pay him back?

The Senate’s top Democrat says a mosque should not be built near the site of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada on Monday became the highest profile Democrat to break with President Barack Obama, who on Friday backed the right for the developers to build a mosque near ground zero.

Harry Reid is in a tight race against Republican Sharron Angle, so maybe Harry’s Ground Zero mosque opposition has a little something to do with polls like this one from KSMV Las Vegas:

Nationally, 64% believe it’s wrong to put a mosque so near Ground Zero. Reid’s already bucking the Nevada trend like a mustang with Michael Moore on its back with his opposition to Arizona’s immigration law, so going against public opinion on this one might have been enough to put Angle over the top, and he knows it.

Update: Greg Sargent from the Washington Post is not wild about Harry:

What’s more, it’s unclear why coming out against the plan in the manner Reid did is even good politics for Democrats at this point. Reid basically threw the whole Dem caucus under the bus: With the Senate leader at odds with the president, the media will press every Senate Dem to declare which side they’re on [It’s about time! DP].
This just makes the Dems look weak, unorganized, cowardly, and unwilling to take a stand for principles they plainly believe in.

The principle Harry Reid believes in right now is getting re-elected.
