DNC observes Flag Day but apparently nobody could find an American flag

On June 14, 1777, the flag of the United States was adopted, which is of course we observe every year on this day by displaying the American flag.

The DNC apparently couldn’t find a picture of a U.S. flag:

Does anybody know what flag or banner that is? I did a search and it was taken at an Obama campaign event (of course) in Davenport, Iowa in 2012. But I’m trying to pin down exactly what it is.

I guess what should most surprise me is that the picture doesn’t have Obama in it.

The RNC did much better:

Obama says military deserters indicate problem with morale and commitment

Yesterday, President Obama criticized soldiers who desert their posts.

Let me be more specific. Obama criticized Iraqi soldiers who desert their posts:

Look, the United States has poured a lot of money into these Iraqi security forces, and we devoted a lot of training to Iraqi security forces. The fact that they are not willing to stand and fight and defend their posts against admittedly hardened terrorists, but not terrorists who are overwhelming in numbers, indicates that there’s a problem with morale, there’s a problem in terms of commitment, and ultimately that’s rooted in the political problems that have plagued the country for a very long time.

Kind of ironic, isn’t it? But I’m a little surprised Obama didn’t offer five-for-one swaps for each of the Iraqi deserters as well so he could have completely emptied Gitmo.

As Iraq appears close to collapse…

To my knowledge the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad hasn’t yet been evacuated, but I do know that preparations are under way in case that’s necessary.

As for the years of blood, sweat, tears and sacrifice of America’s finest, that appears to be slipping away:

ISIS militants are taking control of more and more of Iraq. Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, has already fallen.

During it all I’ve been thinking about a Gold Star Mother who lives nearby. She lost her Marine son in Iraq nine years ago. Our little community here rallied to support her family and hopefully were of some comfort. There is still a picture of him in the window of the local gas station. The sun has left it a little faded, but his name is still readable, as are the words “KIA Fallujah, 2005.”

She remains very proud of her son of course, but I can’t help but try to imagine what she’s thinking today. And the same goes for the thousands of parents of service members killed in Iraq over a nine-year period.

The greatest disservice that could be done to these families — and the country for that matter — is if they end up telling themselves “it was for nothing.”

I’m afraid that’s precisely what’s happening.

Iran is of course smelling opportunity due to the instability.

A history lesson courtesy of the Barack Obama Twitter account

A reminder from the historians at the @BarackObama Twitter account:

Is it common knowledge in all 57 states that the first moon landing was in 1963? And does Team Obama really want to lecture everybody else about equal pay?

Maybe the same people who wrote that got their education courtesy of the Chicago Public School system:

Fixing the GOP messaging on the Gitmo 5 release

Sometimes the Republicans point out valid issues we should be concerned about, but they often to a horrible job at “selling” their position. When it comes to this, the Right can certainly take a lesson from the Left.

I’ll hand it to the libs, they do a far better job at packaging issues to generate maximum public emotion.

Take for example President Obama releasing five terrorists from Gitmo.

How the Republicans report it: “President Obama released five terrorists from Gitmo!”

If it were a Republican president who released those five men the liberal spin machine would have a field day. Here’s how the Left would sell that same story: “The president just released five men who support hanging gays and stoning women to death for the ‘crime’ of being raped!” (“War on Women” and “rampant homophobia” two-fer!) And don’t think for a second they wouldn’t also throw out a body count, no matter if it were true or not: “These men have already killed over 1,000 people, mostly children. And they’re also global warming deniers!”

The DNC would probably even throw in stuff like this:

This is happening in Qatar right now because President Republican released the Gitmo 5:

Come on, Republicans — think it through for maximum impact.

Michael Bloomberg’s gun control stooge not only wrong, but a hypocrite

Shannon Watts, who heads up the Michael Bloomberg funded “Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America” actually said the scenario that a good guy with a gun (private citizen) has stopped a bad guy with a gun has “never happened.” Yep — never happened.

We know that’s patently false, but the nature of the Bloomberg anti-gun push requires lying with frequency and impunity to a mostly complicit mainstream media.

Oh, and if a good guy with a gun has never stopped a bad guy with a gun, why does Watts require armed security? Ditto for her multi-leveled hypocrite puppet master Michael Bloomberg.

But I guess the ridiculous claim that a good guy with a gun has never stopped a bad guy with a gun sounds better than what they behavior actually tells us: “Our lives are worth protecting but you are expendable.”

Who’s up for ‘Senator Michelle Obama’?

And her campaign slogan could be “because America couldn’t get lucky enough for them to just retire gracefully”:

Speculation about a possible political future for Michelle Obama has naturally centered on the White House. But that’s the wrong place — at least for now.

Illinois has a Republican senator, Mark Kirk, and he is up for reelection in 2016. He’ll be formidable, particularly given his brave recovery from a stroke. But Illinois is a heavily Democratic state, and the race could be close.

No Illinois Democratic candidate would bring the star power and nationwide fundraising capacity that Obama would.

She has proven herself a superb speaker on behalf of her pet projects and is now a veteran campaigner for her husband. She’s also remained highly popular — even as the president’s ratings have plummeted.

She could represent the Democrats’ best chance to pick up a desperately needed — and winnable — seat. A December 2012 Public Policy Polling survey put her ahead of Kirk, 51 percent to 40 percent. Democratic leaders’ pressure on her to run might get intense.

She’d have a tougher time getting the vote of people recently out of high school who would still be gagging on her prescribed school lunches.

Sen. Chris Murphy is either shamelessly lying or pitifully uninformed

Liberal Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy on criticism of President Obama swapping five Taliban leaders for Army deserter Bowe Bergdahl:

What an ass. “Chose to fight to protect the rest of us”? Initially, maybe, but not as of June 30, 2009.

Obama releases Gitmo prisoners for soldier’s return — best case/worst case scenarios

On Saturday, it was announced that Bowe Bergdahl, a U.S. soldier held by Taliban in Afghanistan since 2009, would be returned for the release of five Gitmo prisoners who have been deemed by terrorism experts as highly dangerous individuals. Obama broke the law by not informing Congress that he was freeing terrorists from Gitmo, and the White House has admitted as much (the White House informed Congress as the release was happening).

Those are the facts, but the “read between the lines” parts can be very confusing and disturbing.

Best case scenario: Bergdahl served honorably and was forcibly held by the Taliban for five years, and the Obama administration feared that the Taliban was growing increasingly impatient and was about to kill him. So, with no time to alert Congress and the Taliban demand of the release of five of their commanders on the table as the only way to save Bergdahl’s life, President Obama decided to give them what they wanted for the return of the U.S. soldier. The five released Gitmo prisoners go to Qatar and become successful insurance salesmen and don’t try to harm anybody ever again.

Worst case scenario: Bergdahl was a deserter from the U.S. Army and had willingly joined the Taliban. The Taliban figured they could play off Bergdahl as a POW and use him to demand the release of their five commanders in return for sparing Bergdahl’s life. Obama agrees to the demand and releases five of the most dangerous terrorists at Gitmo who go on to help plan more attacks against U.S. soldiers and civilians while an al-Qaeda sympathizer is welcomed to mainland USA with the blessing of the President of the United States.

Toss Bowe Bergdahl’s father, Robert, into the mix and something here stinks to high heaven.

Oh, and during Obama’s announcement with Bowe Bergdahl’s parents he said that the situation highlighted the necessity of … closing Gitmo. WHAT!? In other words, if Gitmo didn’t exist Obama wouldn’t have had to release five terrorists from Gitmo. Follow that? Progressive “logic” at its finest: “The reason the terrorists hate us is because of the prisons we put them in after they’re caught trying to kill us by the thousands.”

The fact is that just about every aspect of Obama’s moves on this are “worst case scenarios” — it’s just a matter of to what degree. Five dangerous Taliban commanders are back on the streets because the president unilaterally just let them go. That’s a big problem, but I’m guessing the Democrats in Congress consider it a high honor to be stepped on by Obama and not much will come of this.

Interesting reminder here:

Bowe Bergdahl would detail his disillusionment with the Afghanistan campaign in an e-mail to his parents three days before he went missing.

“I am sorry for everything here,” he wrote. “These people need help, yet what they get is the most conceited country in the world telling them that they are nothing and that they are stupid.”

Bergdahl also complained about fellow soldiers. The battalion commander was a “conceited old fool,” he said, and the only “decent” sergeants, planning to leave the platoon “as soon as they can,” told the privates — Bergdahl then among them — “to do the same.”

“I am ashamed to be an American. And the title of US soldier is just the lie of fools,” he concluded. “I am sorry for everything. The horror that is America is disgusting.”

Update II:

Reminder: At least six soldiers were killed searching for Bergdahl in Afghanistan. President Obama must look their families in the eye and tell them their loved ones didn’t die trying to rescue a deserter, and it must be sincere and truthful. Anything less than that is grounds for removal from office.

If at least six soldiers died searching for a deserter who had become a Taliban sympathizer, and on top of that Obama let five dangerous prisoners loose for his return, that would be treasonous. There’s no other word for it.

Update III:

If the tweet below is factual, and it’s also true that Bergdahl deserted his post and at least six Americans were killed in the search for him, this would be a direct slap in the face to those men, their families, and the military on the part of the White House:
